At this year’s Monterey Car Week, Aston Martin unveiled its newest design concept – the DBR22. This V12, two-seater, coach-built concept celebrates the brand’s history of open-cockpit sports racers that have won many races around the world.
The DBR22 was handled by Aston Martin’s in-house bespoke division, known as Q by Aston Martin. They are celebrating 10 years of building exclusive cars for customers around the world, including iconic one-off commissioned cars like the Aston Martin Victor, and low volume vehicles like the Vulcan hypercar.
Q by Aston Martin combined classic coachbuilding and advanced modern materials to create the DBR22, which is the perfect blend of design and performance. With its classic proportions, the DBR22 has a timeless design that is both traditional and muscular, much like classic Aston Martin sports cars like the DBR1 and DB3S.
Vehicles like the DB3S are foundational to Aston Martin’s racing history, and a DBR1 won Le Mans in 1959 driven by legendary race car drivers Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori. The Aston Martin team also won the World Sports Car Championship in the same year.
The DBR22 features a powerful 5.2-liter V12 twin-turbo powertrain with an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. Acceleration to 60 mph takes just 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is 198 mph. As much time was spent on ensuring the DBR22 was as amazing to drive as it is to look at.
