Aston Martin recently announced their new ambitious strategy for creating a sustainable ultra-luxury automotive business with Racing.Green. The new strategy sets up core principles in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, with targets across all aspects of the business, including a focus on tackling climate change, creating a better environment, and building a more diverse and inclusive company that is stronger than ever.
Some of the commitments announced as part of Racing.Green. include targeting Net-Zero emissions from Aston Martin’s manufacturing facilities by 2030, and a 30% reduction in supply chain emissions. Aston Martin has also outlined its ambition to achieve Net-Zero emissions across its entire supply chain by the year 2039.
Aston Martin has already made significant progress in achieving sustainability, including a 44% reduction in emissions intensity at the brand’s UK operations between 2020 and 2021. Aston Martin has also used 100% renewable energy across all its UK manufacturing facilities since 2019.
As part of its efforts, Aston Martin will install more than 14,000 solar panels at its St. Athan site in Wales. These panels are capable of delivering 20% of the plant’s annual energy demands. All of the waste Aston Martin produces has already been successfully diverted from landfills, and there is a target to eliminate all plastic packaging waste at Aston Martin within the next three years.
The Racing.Green. strategy is also targeting the reduction of water consumption by 15%, and increasing the use of sustainable materials and enhancement of biodiversity across all of Aston Martin’s sites. Aston Martin vehicles are also known for their longevity, exclusivity and hand-built craftsmanship, with 95% of the 109,000 cars built in its 109 year history still on the road today.
Sustainability principles are also part of Aston Martin’s future product strategy, with a clear roadmap to electrification. Aston Martin is introducing its first plug-in hybrid – the mid-engine Valhalla supercar – in early 2024. The brand’s first battery electric vehicle is expected to launch in 2025. By 2026, all new Aston Martin product lines for sale will feature an electrified powertrain option. Aston Martin expects its entire core portfolio of GT sports cars and SUVs to be fully electric by the year 2030.
